Feeling Like You Could Be More Skilled as a Partner?
Would You Like to Get the "Deep Structure" of Focusing?
Is Focusing Woven Into Your Life at a Deep Level?
Is this you? You have a feeling you could be getting more from your Focusing, but you're not sure how. Or you get to a certain point in your Focusing and it stops, even though you have a feeling you could go deeper. Or you don't know if what you're getting is really a “felt sense.” Or sometimes you have great sessions but sometimes nothing happens at all.
It’s understandable that you feel uncertain sometimes. Your inner sense is telling you that there is more to Focusing.
The whole Focusing Training Program is four Levels, each one building up skills so that you strengthen and deepen your ability to be a listener to yourself (and to others!).
Level 2: Accompanying the Inner Relationship
In Level Two you'll be learning more about the “edge,” that place where what is unclear becomes clear, and how that is the key to transformation. You’ll learn more about Presence, the ability to be with anything that arises. And you'll learn more about the relationship between the two, how Presence helps the "edge" form, and how Focusing allows us to access wisdom that is so holistic, it's as if the problem knows how to solve itself!
As a Focusing partner, you’ll learn how to help your partner stay at the “edge” of awareness, where the possibility of true transformation lies. You’ll learn how to support your partner in being in Presence. You’ll learn other “advanced listening” techniques so you can smoothly support without simply repeating. And you’ll learn a Leading In process that helps your partner start the session.
Level 3: Supporting the Inner Relationship
In Level Three you’ll be learning more options for each stage of the Focusing process: more ways of starting, more ways of deepening your connection. You’ll learn some very specific and powerful ways to go beyond just “being with it,” including the remarkable “not-wanting and wanting” process first developed in Treasure Maps to the Soul. And you’ll fine tune your intuition about when a felt sense needs more time and when it needs an invitation.
As a Focusing partner, you’ll learn a model for the typical “shape” of a Focusing session, our famous “bottle.” This will let you know what stage the process is in, and what kind of invitation would be most supportive at that stage. You will learn carefully crafted language that supports you in supporting your partner, and you will also learn how to craft your own guiding (reminding) phrases.
Level 4: Facilitating the Inner Relationship
In Level Four, Focusing becomes even more integrated into your life, how you are with yourself, how you are with others. Focusing Level Four invites us to return to the essence of the Focusing process, to the simplicity beneath the complexity. We discover that we can let go of “rules” and stay true to what is essential.
In Level Four we learn and practice ways to be present for a partner who feels not much... or too much. We learn how to facilitate Focusing through all kinds of blocks: inner critics, doubts, sleepiness, distractions. As we learn how to be present for this in our partners, we also learn how to deepen the process for ourselves.
Levels Two, Three, and Four are each taught as two-day workshops and also as a five-week telecourses. The levels must be taken in order – Level 1 is the prerequisite for Level 2, Level 2 is the prerequisite for Level 3, and Level 3 is the prerequisite for Level 4.
