What People Say

"Focusing allows me to use all of my experiences, emotions, motivators and procrastinators in a holistic process which is framed by the radical acceptance of all that I am. Focusing has helped to funnel all of the seemingly unconnected pieces. And now I use the process in creating my poetry.”
– Helen Ruvelas

“Focusing has allowed me to – look at/and be with – a part of myself that I have never knew existed. The part that was so terrified of death, that it could not even allow itself to say anything about, or think of a loved one dying. Through the process of Focusing I was finally able to admit there was some part of me that needed to look at the issue of death, and what that meant for me. In my initial session I was able to acknowledge that part. In succeeding sessions with another partner, I am able to stay with that frightened part of me and be kind to it, the way I would stay with a frightened friend. Since I have been Focusing, I have become more aware of the vague signals my body sends me. That first twinge of discomfort in certain situations, or that simple sense of joy around some people. In fact, I feel like I have developed a close relationship with my inner self (child) through Focusing. I like that, it makes me feel more complete.”
– Marie Napoli

The Power of Focusing

The Focusing Student's & Companion's Manual - Part 1

The Radical Acceptance of Everything
The Power of Focusing, published in 1996, is an easy-to-read, straightforward introduction to how to do Focusing, intended for the general reader. It includes stories of people using Focusing for making decisions, releasing blocks, receiving inner support during illness, and many others The Focusing Student’s and Companion’s Manual, Part One, published in 2002, was written by Ann (collaborating with Barbara McGavin) as a practical yet in-depth manual to accompany a first or second level Focusing course. Inner Relationship Focusing teaches around the world use this as the manual for their courses; it has been translated into Dutch and Japanese. It’s intended for use with a workshop or class, but you can buy it directly if you would like. The Radical Acceptance of Everything, published in 2005, is an integrated collection of Ann’s writings over the past 20-some years, including four articles written especially for this book and never published before. Each article has a new introduction setting the context for why the article was written and updating new developments. Ann’s style is engaging and personal; her own story with Focusing is woven in, making the writing even more accessible.
