Directory of Inner Relationship TeachersNicholas Head, MA I love Focusing. It enriches my life in every dimension and on every level, and has informed my work as a counselor, consultant, coach and life planning professional. I first learned Gendlin style Focusing in a practicum at the Chicago Counseling and Psychotherapy Center in 1974. More recently I was trained in Inner Relationship Focusing by Ruth Hirsch. Laury Rappaport assisted. Focusing is invaluable as a stand-alone practice for personal growth, self-healing and relationship enhancement. I have found that in coaching particularly Focusing fosters an inside/out alignment between core values, goals and behavior, and enriches the process of moving from awareness to action. I have also found that Focusing during life transitions gives rise to a perfect container or holding space for incubating and realizing new understandings. It is a valuable process for personal renewal, and for crafting new meanings at midlife or when going into retirement. I have a MA in Buddhist and Western Psychology from Naropa University, and am a Certified Focusing Professional and Trainer, a certified counselor and life coach, a licensed Third Age coach (50-75) and professional AD/HD coach. I learned life planning from Richard Bolles, author of What Color Is Your Parachute? while directing a career guidance center funded by the Illinois Board of Education. I also had three years of counselor supervision with Rich Carson, author of Taming Your Gremlin. I'm a certified teacher of William Bridges' approach to transition management. - Guided Focusing sessions by phone. - Focusing classes and workshops - Focusing-Oriented Coaching, a presence-based approach to planned change.
