Focusing-Oriented Therapy for the Real World
Bringing the Heart of Focusing-Oriented Therapy to Your Practice
A new 5-week phone course taught by noted author and psychotherapist Helene Brenner

How do you take clients from
“What should I do? How do I fix myself?”
to “I know what I want and need. I can trust myself”?
What we will be learning:
• How to build an alliance between yourself as the therapist and the client’s larger Self
• How to draw inner forward movement from externally-oriented clients
• How to help clients “wake up” to their own wisdom and inner compassion
• How to help your clients learn 5 powerful pathways to aligning with their inner selves
• How to talk with colleagues and other professionals about the value of this approach in comparison with other therapeutic approaches
What this phone course is about:
If you already know Focusing, you know how amazing and healing Focusing can be. As a healing professional, you naturally want to share that with your clients and your colleagues.
Some therapy clients simply "take to" Focusing and that is wonderful. However, if you’re like most therapists, you’re confronted every day, hour after hour, with clients who do not want to “go inside” and sit with the unknown. They find the Focusing process foreign and even frightening to them. Most are in a state of urgency or crisis. They want to know what to do! Now! And they have learned since early childhood not to find their answers within.
On top of that, you may be working in an environment where anything like Focusing is looked down upon as “soft,” not “evidence-based,” and lacking clear treatment goals and outcomes.
So, how can you bring this profoundly transformational process into your work as a therapist?
Helene has developed a strengths- and skills-based, relational, and client-centered system to help clients build their inner awareness and develop a stronger sense of self, so that they can meet the challenges of their lives in more adaptive and self-responsive ways.
In this course you will learn how to powerfully use your Focusing presence within therapy sessions. Starting with the first session, you’ll learn how to assess clients’ abilities to access and trust their inner selves and their strengths and impediments when it comes to following their life-forward movement.
You’ll learn how to “listen for the edge,” entering fully into the client’s experience yet going one step beyond it to bring forth what’s not yet known.
And you’ll learn how to empower them with tools they can use themselves to discover their Inner Voice:
• How to identify and discriminate between what arises from their inner selves and their critical and other “outside voices”
• The ABCs of Acknowledgement, Being With and Compassion to help build a more compassionate, embodied, attending-to-the-present self
• The Five Pathways to the Inner Voice -- Knowing, Sensing, Feeling, Wanting and the Voice of the Larger Self -- tools they can use to counteract self-denying patterns and re-align with their own life-forward movement.
