What People Say:

"What Focusing has meant to me:
When I took my very first teleclass with Ann, I knew right away that she had a gift and that I wanted to share and learn from her. The gift isn’t just the ability to put the indescribable into the perfect words, nor the soothing & healing tone of her companioning voice...it isn’t the way she devotes herself to Inner Relationship Focusing either, though her energy and enthusiasm are contagious! I guess at the start, I went with my, ’gut feeling,’ which I later learned and even later understood was a strong and clear ’felt sense,’ that by Focusing, I would find the inner peace and inner direction I’d been seeking through years of psychotherapy and self-help. As a clinical social worker and as a mother, Focusing is a wonderful tool that takes my closest family members and possibly clients to that place of feeling heard and understood, first by self followed closely by important or significant others. I consider my connection to Ann and Focusing one of the most important tools for growth and change in my life. And I would go so far as to say that Inner Relationship Focusing is one of the most important developments of the Century. A bold statement I know, but one I've thought about for some time now and still believe.”
– Laura Rodgers

”Focusing, as taught by Ann Weiser Cornell, has made a transformative impact on me, both personally and professionally. It has brought keener mindfulness to my day to day life, I am gentler and clearer with myself, my spouse, and my children. It’s offered me a kind of formula, like algebra to approach things with. I have never listened to my psychotherapy clients in such a comprehensive, containing, and facilitative way. I have had many wonderful mentors in my career, and just a few ’diamond in the rough’ teachers, Ann truly is both of these for me.”
– Carol Sutherland Nickerson, LICSW, Cape Cod, MA

In the spirit of continuing to create a safe and healthy space for all, we’d like to make a request, to help ensure that everyone who participates in Focusing gatherings can do so without feeling sick during or after meeting.

You can make a difference that supports the health and healing of people with asthma, allergies, chemical sensitivity, cancer and HIV by reducing or eliminating your use of chemicals and fragranced products.

Here's our request:

Please plan to wear clothes that have NOT been dried with fabric softener.

Please do NOT wear perfume, cologne, aftershave, etc. or clothes that have been exposed to perfume, cologne, aftershave, etc.

Some hair gels/sprays/mousses are comparable to perfumes, etc. in fragrance. Please DON’T use them before the meeting.

Please don’t wear clothes that have been exposed to cigarette smoke or incense, dry cleaned, stored with mothballs, or that has a “closet smell” (which is usually dried mold)

Please look at the list of products below and see which you can avoid or replace with fragrance-free
versions:

       • deodorant
       • soap
       • shampoo
       • hair conditioner
       • laundry detergent
       • lotion
       • baby powder
       • sunscreen
       • insect repellent
       • make-up
       • hair dye and perm chemicals
       • recently polished shoes

If at all possible, please look at the ingredients of these items, and check for the word “fragrance” and
then practice “when in doubt, leave it out” before attending a Focusing meeting.

Thank you so much for contributing to a healthy, inclusive environment for all!
